Bangalore's Namma Metro---The Way Ahead and a Game Changer

A ride in Bangalore's Namma Metro offers us a sneek peek into how the metro rail has brought around a paradigm shift in the way India's Silicon Valley lives its lifestyle.

The much needed metro rail has brought in a sense of punctuality, a sense of cleanliness and an overall transformation in how a city commutes its population ushering in development, prosperity and innovation. Namma Metro, as it is locally referred to, has fast proved to be a life line for the citizens of Bangalore offering numerous events happening year round at different metro stations.

Talking about metro stations, the metro stations are an engineering marvel themselves giving rise to eateries, fast food joints and other art based shops. Metro Stations propagate events centered around creative expressions of art through out the year. Namma Metro educates commuters through their digital LCD display units installed within the trains about the state of Karnataka, it's history, it's famous personalities in every sphere and promotes the usage of Kannada language without being intrusive, overarching  and disrespecting any other language or culture.

Bangalore's Namma Metro offers a good, reliable, hygienic, punctual and affordable mode of transport which is of paramount importance for it's people.

Namma Metro is definitely a jewel in the crown for Bangalore city, the state of Karnataka and India and should be maintained as such.

What is Independence?

Does Independence mean an unbridled freedom to do or make the best use of the resources at your disposal? Does Independence mean to complteley avoid interdependence? Independence, in essence, means the capability, capacity to live using the resources one has at his or her disposal Independence has to do more with the process to adapt, learn and unlearn. Independence means to stand on one's own feet. It means the confidence to implement and take decisions, make informed choices. That is why it is popularly said that, one has to "earn" or "achieve", "social' or "economic" independence. Let us not get caught in jingoistic sloganeering and rhetoric rubbish and be misled by what Independence really means.

Trip to Mangalore, January 9-12

A trip to Mangalore during the month of January was such a welcome break from stress. It ushered in a breath of fresh air, so to speak!!!
Mangalore, one of the largest port cities of the state of Karnataka is a modern, metropolitan city with a mixture of different cultures.

The day time train journey from Bangalore to Mangalore  is a must do on everybody's wish list!
One encounters 57 tunnels and as many bridges during the journey along with some jaw dropping scenery of mountains and streams as a backdrop!

The city of Mangalore has tremendous potential to be a tourist as well as
become an important industrial tier-1 city of the state of Karnataka.

The coastal city is dotted with beautiful temples, churches, mosques, parks restaurants and beaches. The beaches are maintained very clean and is a sight to sore eyes!!!
The predominant languages spoken in Mangalore are Tulu, ( no dialect), Konkani, Malayalam and Kannada. Suffice is to say that Mangaloreans are linguists which is a fundamental requirement for the city  to be metropolitan and cosmopolitan!!!
However, the city does need to drastically improve in terms of in-city public transportation

What I find is the fact that most people who visit Mangalore,  forget to mention about the amount of greenery within the city limits!

It is city, for now, which has a lot of greenery within it's urban sprawl.
The city is famous for it's educational institutes; especially nursing colleges.
The city has good access to qualified man power which can help it to become extremely productive.

A visit to the city's zoo called as the Pilikula Zoo (www.plikulazoo.com) is a welcome one. One can choose to take the Buggy tour of the Zoo with a trail length of 2.5 km for a Rs.300/- fee. A little known fact about the zoo is that it happens to be the largest zoo in the state of Karnataka by area under semi-government control.

Mangalore's temples , namely the Kudroli-Gokarnatheshwara temple, commonly known as the Golden temple is a sight to behold!

The Goddess  Mangaladevi temple, from which the city's name is derived (similar to the city of Mumbai from Mumba devi temple) is a historic one to visit.

Tipu Sultan's armory at the Sultan Bathery beach is a beautiful and indigenous monument as well!
The city has the potential to blend history with modern day technology and become truly cosmopolitan!
Mangalore can be a beacon to provide a fillip to tourism of coastal Karnataka!

Food Is Community In Indian Cuisine

Comparison

Comparison is  one thing that my father had extremely strong views about.
He often said that it led to negative results as we tend to have the wrong benchmarks like comparing our weaknesses to other's strengths.
If a comparison, helped one to motivate, that would be fine but the amount has to be in the tiniest of bits as it most easily goes negative and one does not learn anything. Failure as compared to comparison( :-)) was a much valuable teacher is what he propounded!. It is usually seen that comparison robs one of excellence or the fire or desire to improve! That happens to be one of the biggest of unnecessary of hurdles to be counted as a contender!.
Hence, his motto being, look on how you can improve, give your best effort ignoring banal comments and insults and move ahead!!!!

To stay calm and sane under extreme pressure

My father had a sense of sanity and common sense that wasn't exhibited by some of the more qualified people. He always was present in times of need and help.
This was a fact recalled and thanked by many people who had their acquaintances with him. It is, in fact, one other tough quality to emulate.
For a person like me, it takes years of self-belief, hard work, patience and perseverance to develop such a character
