Perhaps Cook could listen to M.S. Dhoni’s take on the England captain’s
crisis “I have gone through a phase where I have lost eight Test matches
in a row and then you will get all sort of comments. If you think you
can accomplish the job that has been entrusted to you then it really
doesn’t matter what the world is saying about you. It depends on the
individual.”

UVCE versus the need of an IIT in Karnataka
As an admirer of the late Sir M. Visvesvaraya, on whom the most prestigious Indian civilian award, the Bharta Ratna was conferred, I would like to bring to notice the sad state of the engineering institute that he started in the year 1917. The University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering http://uvcebangalore.org/ has a crying need to be completely overhauled to a modern engineering institute of excellence. Lack of funds is
often cited as the case for upgrading India's fourth most oldest college of engineering. Frankly, one look at the college buildings, one would come to know how derelict and decrepit the buildings have become of this once know fine institution of India. It is not the lack of funds or money, but the lack of sheer will power towards the renewal of infrastructure of this once revered institution is what one finds it galling on the part people of Bangalore and India.
Sir M. Visvesvaraya started this institution in order to instil the idea of industrialization in India, he himself being an engineer from College of Engineering, Pune which again is a government engineering which needs a major overhaul today. It is not the lack of an IIT that people of Karnataka need to cry hoarse today, but the sheer apathy shown towards this great institute of learning. The city of Bangalore already has the Indian Institute of Science, considered as MIT of India, Indian Institute of Management several private and public institutes spread across Karnataka as well.
This institute was converted into a public institute in its early days which reminds of the nationalization of Tata Airlines into Air India.J.R.D Tata, another Bharat Ratna, being an Indian, showed the world what is professionalism in terms of clock work precision and punctuality. Privatization of UVCE might not be the complete answer to the ills that it subjected to, but the never ending politics and internal squabbles which has led to its disarray. The bust of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, at the entrance of the institute, also seems to be defaced!!!. In a country where Goddess Sarasawati is revered as the goddess of education, it is a criminal neglect to be unconcerned with the institute.
It is requested to one all and all without insinuating anybody or blaming anybody to take up the cause to find a solution towards how UVCE can become a beacon of Center of Excellence for modern times.
